Matthew 2.  Born in Bethlehem - Escape to Egypt - Return to Nazareth - Sometimes obedience is simply keeping the promise alive - They had to keep moving in step to avoid certain capture and death. - God’s plan will always push us in the right direction. It’s are job not to resist.

all the way to the end.
It was almost time for the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that it was time for him to leave this world and go back to the Father. He had always loved those who were his own in the world, and he loved them all the way to the end. john 13.1 ALL THE WAY TO THE END.  I am a sanguine. I love life and people and experiencing all that God has.  Direct from wikipedia: ”Sanguine personalities...

if it's no, it's no.
You began your life in Christ by the Spirit. Now are you trying to make it complete by your own power? That is foolish Were all your experiences wasted? I hope not!Does God give you the Spirit and work miracles among you because you follow the law? NO, he does these things because you heard the Good News and believed it. Gal.3.3-6 if it’s no, it’s no.  How many times I have...

3 Ironies of Mark 5
1. The man with the unclean spirit sees Jesus from afar and immediately comes up to Jesus…only to ask “What do you want with me? (Mark 5.7) Jesus barely has time to get out of the boat before this man shows up right in front of him and proceeds to ask Jesus what He wants from him. So Crazy. I can’t imagine someone running up to me and asking me “What do you want with...

1. Leverage what you already know. 2. Ask Intelligent Questions. 3. Connect the dots for yourself (learning 101). 4. Connect the dots for others (learning 102). 5. Repeat. I was thinking earlier this week and jotted some quick notes down. Thought I would share. Andy

Lifetime.
Soon after Rachel had given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Please release me so I can go home to my own country. Genesis 30.25 Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.” Genesis 31 .3 How to give God your lifetime. As I read this today, I just got stopped at how significant...

The Great One.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. Psalm 145.3 Hockey season is nearly here! My Red Wings jersey has been spotted in the far reaches of my closet, the official Red Wings app is released and tickets go on sale tomorrow! It’s a good time of the year. My memories return like the fall air and I sense that this season will be much greater than the...

before the gods
I give You thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing Your praise; (Psalm 138:1 ESV) keep singing. There are so many gods in this world. lowercase ‘g’ Money. lack of money. stuff. self. sex. drugs. religion. job. people. I love this psalm. BEFORE THE GODS I SING YOUR PRAISE. It’s where I want to be. It’s what I want to be found doing. I am tired of...

let's get together
Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment. (Proverbs 18:1 ESV) It’s in isolation that we feel most justified. Why? Well, it seems to me that there is something in us that thrives in “adversity.” It’s a rebel force. It’s the love of the underdog. Only when you choose to isolate yourself it’s not adversity that...

Saint Telemachus
This is an October 2003 post from a great friend that I was thinking about tonight; it still is profoundly impacting today. enjoy! Saint Telemachus, a fourth-century monk who lived in a monastery, felt God calling him to Rome. He couldn’t figure out why God would want him in Rome, but he felt the pressure to go. Putting his possessions in a little satchel, he threw the bag over his shoulder and...

before work.
Today was a fast saturday and in my opinion had it not been for the slows “yardbird” sandwhich, I wouldn’t be in this nearly-ready-yet-lacking-a-coffee state of being. WORK! We love to work, right!  Do you have a routine before work?  Mine is to take care of as many opportunities as possible then race (at the correct speed - seriously) to work, change into the tuxedo and begin....

And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father, for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.  Matthew 3:9 Another pharisee-ism stopped me dead tonight.  Here they are thinking that because of their past, because of their credentials, because they come from a line of… they are a “leg up” on this repentance thing. ...

thoughts for war week night 1
How great it truly was to sit with people that I love and listen to the great man who is R.T. Kendall. War Week begins! Today is the day!  I love knowing who I (we) are becoming through Him. I am grateful He is still recalculating. Tomorrow is nearly here and the weeks will fly by. But I couldn’t help but to reflect on a statement that I am still reading with tears years and years later....

getting there.
“While I can, I sail east in the Dawn Treader. When she fails me, I paddle east in my coracle. When she sinks, I shall swim east with my four paws. And when I can swim no longer, if I have not reached Aslan’s country, or shot over the edge of the world in some vast cataract, I shall sink with my nose to the sunrise and Peepiceek will be head of the talking mice in Narnia.” ...

life in the proving grounds
for anthony: God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go!15 This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?”16 God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. At Ford the proving...

25.
“Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for God.” If there has ever been a moment to simplify, it’s now. I’m nearly 25. 25. Whoa! The lessons that I am learning now stem from 25 years of experience, I know awesome, right? A quarter century gone by and I can breathe a sigh of relief. My life is more simple than it has ever been! In view of the...

Life as a God story
“Abraham entered into what God was doing for him, and that was the turning point. He trusted God to set him right instead of trying to be right on his own.” We all need a turning point.  Sometimes we need more than one. Is your life a God story? Today is the day that the Lord has made. This moment, I sense God’s awesomeness all around me. It is late and I am sitting perfectly still....

a quote from a friend
Disaster occurs in your life when you lack the mental composure that comes from establishing yourself on the eternal truth that God is holy love. Faith is the supreme effort of your life— throwing yourself with abandon and total confidence upon God. -oswald chambers

But most days, because of what you are going through, I am sure that it’s better for me to stick it out here.So I plan to be around awhile, companion to you as your growth and joy in this life of trusting God continues. -Paul  1. who can you be a companion to, helping their growth and joy as they trust God? 2. what keeps you from being available when people need you.? 3. when selfishness...

God changes things.
I loved reading through acts 10 and wrapping my mind around how big a deal it was for Peter to have the vision on the roof. God literally changes Peter’s mind as he begins to see events unfold and reveal something about God. Obeying God will protect you from becoming stuck in a religious system of your own. Without obedience there is no understanding when God acts. If Peter isn’t...

the lonely places.
As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him… Acts 8:6 As for me. The single individual is decisive in forming community…The cohesiveness of community comes from each one’s being a single individual before the eternal. The connectedness of a public, however, or rather its disconnectedness, consists of the numerical character of everything. God speaks to the individual....

For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us.Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1 thessalonians 4.9-11 Two days have passed since I was first presented with this passage. 10,000 hours
I recall often the vivid point made in an all-to-well-known book. It takes 10,000 hours to become an expert. 10,000 hours of practice, study, investment. Simply stated twenty hours a week for ten years would be enough to make you an expert in any field that you choose. Reading through the word this morning I was struck with the thought, “How many hours have a spent training to be a disciple...

ability
“There is nothing with which every man is so afraid as getting to know how enormously much he is capable of doing and becoming.” -s.k. I fall for it. I trust in myself. NO Really, I do. I start off right. I am humbly and incredibly aware that by myself I am capable of nothing and with Christ anything is possible, but somewhere along the line I get suckered into thinking I can do it on my own. I...
